Meningitis Vaccines for Students
Students starting university are at increased risk of meningitis, so it’s important to check your vaccination status.
- MenACWY vaccine: Available on the NHS for eligible students (usually under 25 and starting university). This protects against four common strains of meningitis
- MenB vaccine: Not routinely available on the NHS for students. We can only provide this if specifically advised by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
- Private MenB vaccination: may be available elsewhere.
There are 3 vaccines that a child should have received in its first 2 years. We are still able to vaccinate children under the age of 2 – we cannot, at this moment, offer to vaccinate any other people, even if they are travelling to Kent. We will update this guidance should the situation change.
