Important Update
Weight Loss Injections – Mounjaro
You may have seen in the news that GPs can now prescribe weight loss injections like Mounjaro from June. While this is true, the eligibility criteria for GP’s prescribing it are extremely strict.
Out of the 30,000 patients registered with our surgery, we estimate that only around 8 patients will qualify. Some of these individuals may already be prescribed Mounjaro for their Type 2 diabetes.
Please do not contact us (we will contact you if you are eligible)
Eligibility Criteria for GP-Prescribed Weight Loss Treatment (Mounjaro)
- Your BMI must be over 40
And:
- You must have a confirmed diagnosis of at least four out of the following five conditions:
- Hypertension (high blood pressure requiring medication)
- Obstructive sleep apnoea (confirmed by a sleep clinic AND meeting their criteria for CPAP)
- Type 2 diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease (heart disease, stroke, or vascular disease)
- Dyslipidaemia (treated on a statin or alternative and still has high Lipids (LDL > 4.1)
And:
- Agree to the national data requirements for the LCS and to fully engage in the Wraparound weight loss service being provided nationally (if patients do not attend 3 of these appointments NHSE have advised they will not be allowed to access or return onto this national weight loss scheme)
Unfortunately, if you do not meet all of the above criteria, we are not able to prescribe Mounjaro for weight loss under the current GP guidelines.
